About
About Solo W-2, Inc.
I founded the company that is now called Solo W-2, Inc. in 1997. We processed our first consultant payroll in 1998.
I wanted to create an alternative to the traditional temp agency business model that would fairly and humanely represent self-reliant consultants as their employer of record on projects that they procured on their own anywhere in the USA.
Solo W-2, Inc. gives independent professionals the freedom, flexibility, independence and tax advantages of self-employment (Solo), and also provides the superior employee benefits and back-office support of corporate employment (W-2). Hence the name: Solo W-2, Inc.
I coined this simple credo, which represents my approach to doing business:
“The only legitimate purpose of business is to promote the common good through commerce.”
Our proprietary services for individuals and organizations include:
- Solo W-2â„¢ – Employer-of-record service for self-employed persons, small business owners, freelancers and consultants who generate a revenue stream of at least $5,000 per month. Solo W-2â„¢ employees enjoy the freedom, flexibility, independence and tax advantages of self-employment plus the most comprehensive employee benefits package and back-office support available to any independent professional anywhere in the USA.
- Solo 1099â„¢ – Agent-of-record service for independent contractors. Solo 1099â„¢ provides contract administration, timely invoicing and assertive collections services for IRS-compliant, self-employed consultants.
- Solo IC Complianceâ„¢ – Contingent workforce compliance, co-employment risk mitigation, employee training and contractor payment services for organizations that engage independent contractors.
- Solo BackOfficeâ„¢ – Outsourced back-office support and employee benefits for progressive staffing firms, small businesses and start-ups.
About the Solo W-2â„¢ Blog
I have written elsewhere that the Solo W-2™ Blog contains news, insights, tips and resources for solo professionals. How pretentious!
Actually, the Solo W-2™ Blog contains my stream-of-thought musings on anything and whatever I decide to address that even remotely relates to the interests of solo professionals and the organizations that engage their services. Yes, arrogance trumps pretentiousness!
I’ll try to add new material as the muse strikes — generally about once a week — sometimes more often, sometimes less. And I will try to keep it interesting.
I’m such a geek when it comes to learning about the solo workforce. Please, please, gently slap me upside the head if I cause your eyes to glaze over. You will, of course, let me know by your comments if it gets too dry or uninteresting. Right?
I have resisted blogging up until now (mid 2008) and I am going to give it my best shot. As much as I slog through life up to my neck in technology, I am really more interested in lifestyle issues. So, here is my chance to blog about the solo experience and the solo lifestyle, about what makes working solo fun and fulfilling and about how to get the most out of working for oneself. Enjoy!
